My son started the One Piece anime in summer 2026, on Crunchyroll I think. He was also looking up filler lists so he could skip episodes, because the series is huge.
He has read 40 volumes of the manga as well, in two weeks, and he is well ahead of me now.
Nobody in this house has watched all of it.
The Short Answer
How long is One Piece? It has 1,180 episodes as of November 2026, which is about 472 hours of TV. Watching nonstop would take almost 20 days. At one episode a day it takes more than three years, and it is not finished. New episodes come back in 2027.
You do not have to commit to all of that up front. The opening East Blue saga is 61 episodes, about 24 hours, and it tells you whether your kid wants the rest. If you would rather read, the manga moves much faster, and the first box set covers the same opening story.
How Many Episodes of One Piece Are There?
The count is 1,180. Episode 1180 aired in Japan on September 27, 2026, in the middle of the Elbaph arc, and the anime returns in 2027 with episode 1181. As of November 2026, no exact date has been announced. The episode count will grow more slowly from here. One Piece ran almost every week for 26 years and now airs in a seasonal format, capped at 26 episodes a year.
Season numbers do not line up between apps. Wikipedia lists 22, with Elbaph as the latest as of November 2026, but streaming services split the show up in their own ways.
Go by episode number, which is the same everywhere.
How Many Hours Is One Piece?
An episode runs about 24 minutes, which puts the full 1,180 at about 472 hours. Skip the openings, endings and recaps and each episode drops to roughly 20 minutes, or about 393 hours in total. Dropping the 94 filler episodes saves about 38 hours at full length.
Here is what that looks like on a calendar:
| Pace | Time to catch up |
|---|---|
| 1 episode a day | About 3 years, 3 months |
| 2 episodes a day | About 19 months |
| 3 episodes a day | About 13 months |
| 5 episodes a day | About 8 months |
| 10 episodes a day | About 4 months |
| 13 episodes a day | About 3 months |
That last row is the honest answer to whether a person can finish One Piece in three months. Yes, at more than five hours of TV a day. I would not sign a kid up for that during a school year.
One Piece Filler List: What You Can Skip
This is the list my son went looking for. Filler is less of the problem than you would expect. Anime Filler List counts 94 filler episodes out of the 1,168 it tracks, about 8 percent. These are the ones you can skip without missing any of the main story:
Filler episodes: 54-60, 98-99, 102, 131-143, 196-206, 220-225, 279-283, 291-292, 303, 317-319, 326-336, 382-384, 406-407, 426-429, 457-458, 492, 542, 575-578, 590, 626-627, 747-750, 780-782, 895-896, 907, 1029-1030.
The same list marks another 43 episodes as mixed, part story and part filler, so I would keep those.
The real drag is pacing. Later episodes can stretch a small piece of manga across a full 24 minutes, and no filler list fixes that. This is the main reason my advice below leans toward the manga once a kid is hooked.
Where to Watch One Piece
Crunchyroll is the service to use if you want to go in order, because it carries the most complete run. JustWatch also lists Netflix and Hulu in the US, as well as a Pluto TV channel. Netflix has only part of the series and adds batches over time, so there are gaps. If you start there, check that the next batch exists before your kid reaches the end of it.
Shorter Ways In
You have four options that do not involve 472 hours:
| Option | Length | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| East Blue saga (anime) | 61 episodes, about 24 hours | Testing whether your kid likes the real thing |
| The One Piece (Netflix remake) | 7 episodes, about 5 hours, February 2027 | A short, modern start covering the first 50 manga chapters |
| Netflix live-action | 16 episodes as of November 2026 | Trying the story with real actors |
| The manga | 112 English volumes, roughly 60 to 80 hours | Kids who read, and anyone who hates padding |
We started the live-action together. My daughter lost interest, and my son was into it at first and less so now. It is a fine way to test the idea.
The remake is the one to watch for. Netflix has set it for February 2027, with no exact day announced as of November 2026. If your kid has not started and can wait a few months, that may become the easiest first step. There is also a fan edit called One Pace that cuts the anime down. It is not official, so I do not link to it.
What I Would Do
Check the age first. We rate One Piece 12+, and our One Piece age guide splits the anime, the manga and the live-action apart. East Blue is the gentle end of it, and the full run gets heavier.
Then treat East Blue as the deal. It runs 61 episodes, and Arlong Park is the payoff. If that story does not land, stop, and you have lost a couple of weeks.
If it does land, hand over the manga. Our One Piece reading order lays out every arc and box set, and it is the same story without the wait.

About These Recommendations
I’m George, a dad of two. My wife did most of the reading to our kids when they were little, and I did my share. She’s a therapist, and she helps pick the books that actually matter for their development. Some of what’s on this site we’ve read, watched or played as a family. Some I tried on my own first. The rest comes from research: reviews, episode guides, other parents online, and whatever the kids bring home from school.
