Netflix is where anime starts for a lot of families, mine included. It is already on the TV, and the kids already have profiles. We still use it for casual family watching, and most weeks something new with a sword or a basketball shows up in the row they scroll past.

The problem is the badge. Netflix gives every show a TV rating, and for anime those badges are all over the place. Komi Can’t Communicate says TV-PG, and the camera spends enough time on short school skirts that we rate it 12+. Delicious in Dungeon says TV-MA, and it is a cooking show with monsters in it. So I went through what is actually streaming on Netflix in the US right now (I checked every title in October 2026) and sorted it by the ages we use in our Anime Finder. My daughter is 13 and my son is 12. We have watched some of these together, some I watched on my own, and the rest I rated from episode guides and parent reviews.

The Short Answer

Under 10, start with Pokemon Horizons. At 10 or 11, start with The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. At 12 or 13, start with My Hero Academia or Naruto. At 14 and up, Demon Slayer and Death Note are both on Netflix. Every age here comes from our Anime Finder, not from the Netflix badge, and the two often disagree.

One timely pick for the 10-and-up crowd: Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, a remake of the first Super arc, started on Netflix on October 17, 2026, with a new episode every week. If your kid would rather read ahead, volume 1 of the manga covers the same story.

Dragon Ball Super, Vol. 1: Warriors From Universe 6!

Dragon Ball Super, Vol. 1: Warriors From Universe 6!

The natural next step for a kid who finished Dragon Ball Z.. Covers the Beerus story the new anime remake retells, so it pairs well with the show.
The manga tells the story faster than the anime and skips some fights kids may expect.

Netflix Anime for Kids Under 10

For kids under 10, Pokemon and Little Witch Academia are the two safe picks on US Netflix. The list is short, and the reason surprises a lot of parents.

Pokemon Horizons (6+, TV-Y7). The newer series with a new lead, Liko, instead of Ash. It is the easiest entry point there is, and the last part of the third season landed on Netflix in September 2026. Zero violence concerns. Pokemon Concierge (TV-PG) is also on Netflix, a short stop-motion series set at a resort for Pokemon, with episodes calm enough for the end of the day.

Little Witch Academia (8+, TV-Y7). A girl with no magical talent gets into witch school on stubbornness alone. Think Harry Potter energy, lighter. My daughter binged all 25 episodes in two days when she was younger, and it is short enough that it never drags.

Here is the surprise. Studio Ghibli is not on Netflix in the US. Totoro, Ponyo and Spirited Away all stream on HBO Max here, along with the rest of the Ghibli films. Outside the US, Canada and Japan, Netflix carries the Ghibli films, so if you are reading this from somewhere else, start with Totoro (our Ghibli age guide rates every film). My daughter watched it at 5 and it was her comfort movie for years.

Two more that younger kids find on their own: Beyblade X (TV-Y) and The Imaginary, a PG film from Studio Ponoc. Neither is in our Finder yet, so I am not putting an age on them.

Netflix Anime for 10 and 11 Year Olds

For a 10 or 11-year-old, The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. is the pick, with One Punch Man and Drifting Home behind it. This is the age where Netflix starts showing TV-14 on shows that are fine, so the badge stops being much help.

The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. (10+, TV-14). A psychic teenager who only wants to be left alone. It is deadpan and fast, and the episodes are short. Good for a kid who wants to laugh without signing up for a 200-episode saga. Expect some mild swearing and the odd innuendo, and not much else to screen for.

Haikyu!! was the pick here until it left US Netflix. It is on Crunchyroll now, and the manga is the other way in.

Haikyu!! (3-in-1 Edition), Vol. 1

Haikyu!! (3-in-1 Edition), Vol. 1

Three volumes in one official Viz book. Better value than buying Vol. 1 alone. No violence warnings in our Finder, just sports and teamwork. You do not need to know volleyball.
Still only the opening arc of a 45-volume series. Omnibus is thicker than a single volume. Sports manga is not for every kid.

One Punch Man (10+, TV-MA). A hero who wins every fight with one punch and is bored out of his mind. Monster violence and some crude jokes, but it is a parody. Netflix has two seasons. Season 1 is the good one.

Drifting Home (10+, PG). A Netflix film about kids stuck in an old apartment building floating out at sea. It is about friendship and loss and growing up, a bit like a Japanese Goonies with Ghibli-style visuals, and a good one for a movie night.

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus (10+). We rate the whole Dragon Ball franchise 10+, and our Beerus parent guide covers this remake in detail. Worth knowing: the original Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z are not on Netflix in the US. They are on Crunchyroll. So if your kid wants to start at the very beginning, Netflix is the wrong app.

Also on Netflix: The Ribbon Hero, a PG fantasy film from August 2026 that we rated 10+ in its own guide. The swordfights are tame. The grief in the opening is the part to know about.

Netflix Anime for 12 and 13 Year Olds

At 12 and 13, the big shonen shows open up: My Hero Academia, Naruto and One Piece are all on Netflix, and so is Blue Box if your kid is ready for romance. This is the biggest band on Netflix by a long way.

My Hero Academia (12+, TV-MA). A powerless kid in a world of superheroes. Deku earns everything. Season 1 is a great hook, and Netflix has six seasons. It gets darker around season 4, which is why it sits at 12 and not 10.

Naruto (12+, TV-PG). Only the original series is on Netflix in the US. Shippuden, where the story really hits its stride, is on Crunchyroll and Hulu. The filler is brutal, so a skip guide helps. Our Naruto age guide explains the 12+ even though the badge says TV-PG.

One Piece (12+, TV-14). Netflix has the anime up through the Whole Cake Island arc (episode 863), plus the live-action series, which is a decent way to test whether the vibe clicks before committing to hundreds of episodes. The One Piece age guide has the details.

Blue Box (12+, TV-PG). A badminton boy, the older basketball girl he likes, and the fact that she moves into his family’s house. Season 2 started on Netflix on October 4, 2026, with weekly episodes. On content it is about as gentle as this list gets. The 12 is about the romance and the living-together setup, which our Blue Box age guide explains.

A few more 12+ shows that are on Netflix, mostly lighter ones:

  • Komi Can’t Communicate (12+, TV-PG). A popular girl with crippling social anxiety tries to make 100 friends. Sweet and funny, with some suggestive jokes.
  • Ouran High School Host Club (12+, TV-14). A romantic comedy that makes fun of its own genre.
  • Kuroko’s Basketball (12+). Basketball with superpowers. If your kid watches NBA highlights, this is the crossover.
  • Delicious in Dungeon (12+, TV-MA). Adventurers cook and eat the monsters they beat. Ignore the TV-MA (more on that below).
  • Spy x Family (12+, TV-14). Only season 1 is on Netflix in the US. The rest is on Crunchyroll and Hulu.

For a 13-year-old, the question is usually Demon Slayer, since it is right there on Netflix and every kid at school has seen it. We rate it 14+. I took both of mine (11 and 13 at the time) to see Infinity Castle in the theater anyway, and the honest version of my rule is 14+ on their own, 13 with a parent who has talked it through first. The Demon Slayer age guide has the scenes to know about.

Netflix Anime for 14 and Up

At 14, Netflix has a strong teen shelf: Demon Slayer, Death Note, Hunter x Hunter, Vinland Saga and Violet Evergarden are all there. These are the shows where the violence or the themes get real, so I would still watch the first episode before handing one over.

ShowNetflix badgeWhy it waits until 14
Demon Slayer (series and the Infinity Castle film, added September 28, 2026)TV-MA, film RDemons eat people, decapitations, blood
Death NoteTV-14Psychological horror, death as the core theme
Fullmetal Alchemist: BrotherhoodTV-14War, death and one disturbing early episode about a chimera
Hunter x Hunter (2011)TV-14Opens bright, then torture and body horror in later arcs
Vinland SagaTV-MAGraphic Viking violence, slavery themes
JoJo’s Bizarre AdventureTV-MAGore, and a dog death people still bring up
Violet EvergardenTV-14War and grief, nothing graphic
Blue PeriodTV-PGPressure and self-doubt, great for an artistic teen
AggretsukoTV-14Office stress, mild drinking

Death Note is the one I would start with. There is barely any physical violence. The horror is all in the cat-and-mouse between Light and L, and teens who like thrillers more than fight scenes tend to love it. Hunter x Hunter is the one that catches parents out, because the first twenty episodes look like a kids’ adventure show.

What to Keep Off the Kids’ Profile

Of the Netflix anime in our Finder, three sit above 14: Jujutsu Kaisen and Neon Genesis Evangelion at 16+, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which we skip for kids entirely.

Jujutsu Kaisen came to Netflix in the US in 2026, and that changes things for a lot of families, because it now sits in the same app as Pokemon. I have watched it myself. My kids have not, and they won’t for a while. The Shibuya arc kills characters in ways that feel permanent and cruel. Evangelion is a different kind of hard: the real enemy is depression, and the ending still divides people. Edgerunners has graphic gore, sex scenes and nudity from episode 1, and its second season arrived October 20, 2026. It stays blocked on my daughter’s profile.

Why the Netflix Badge and Our Age Disagree

The Netflix badge is a US TV rating, and it was never designed for anime. It tracks swearing and blood reasonably well. It is much less consistent on fanservice, and on things that look gross without being scary.

Three examples from this page. Komi Can’t Communicate is TV-PG, and we rate it 12+ for the suggestive humor: lewd jokes from some of the girls, and a camera that lingers on short school skirts. None of it is explicit, but TV-PG undersells it. Delicious in Dungeon is TV-MA, and we rate it 12+, because the only warnings on our Finder entry are fantasy violence and cartoonish peril. Saiki K. is TV-14, and we rate it 10+, because the worst of it is some language and a joke or two, nothing like Komi. Set a profile to TV-PG and go by badge alone, and you will block the psychic comedy and let the suggestive one through.

What works better is the maturity setting plus the title block. Set the profile to the level you are comfortable with, then block the specific shows you want gone (Edgerunners is the obvious one). Netflix lets you do both per profile, and our streaming services guide walks through the settings and compares Netflix with Crunchyroll and Hulu.

New on Netflix This Season (October 2026)

The newest anime on Netflix this fall is mostly for older kids, with Pokemon as the one big drop for little ones. Here is what arrived since August, with our age next to each one.

I have not found a kids’ anime announced for Netflix in November or December yet. I will update this list when one shows up.

What’s Next

If Netflix is not the only service in your house, our Dad’s Guide to anime by age covers the best shows wherever they stream, including the ones Netflix does not have.

For a kid who has just discovered the fighting shows, shonen anime for kids goes deeper on that shelf. For teens who want something without the gore, try wholesome anime for teens.

Every show on this page, and plenty that are not on Netflix, is in the Anime Finder, where you can filter by your kid’s age, and the anime age ratings page lists them all on one screen. The rest of our anime and manga guides live on the anime and manga hub. Pick the show in your kid’s row of the Short Answer table, watch the first episode with them, and go from there.

FAQ

What anime on Netflix is good for a 10 year old?

The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. is our top pick: a deadpan comedy about a psychic teenager, with nothing heavier than a little swearing and a few innuendo jokes. One Punch Man, the film Drifting Home and the new weekly Dragon Ball Super: Beerus are all rated 10+ in our Anime Finder too. Netflix badges these four anywhere from PG to TV-MA, so go by the show rather than the badge.

What anime can a 12 year old watch on Netflix?

At 12, the big shonen shows open up. My Hero Academia, the original Naruto and One Piece are all on Netflix in the US and rated 12+ in our Anime Finder. For something lighter, Komi Can’t Communicate, Ouran High School Host Club, Kuroko’s Basketball and Blue Box are 12+ as well.

What anime on Netflix is OK for a 13 year old?

Everything in our 12+ band works at 13, starting with My Hero Academia, Naruto and One Piece. Demon Slayer is the one most 13-year-olds ask for. We rate it 14+, and at 13 it works best with a parent who has talked through the violence first. Jujutsu Kaisen is also on Netflix now, and we rate it 16+.

Is Studio Ghibli on Netflix?

Not in the US. Totoro, Spirited Away, Ponyo and the other Ghibli films stream on HBO Max in the US. Netflix carries the Ghibli films in most other countries, except Canada and Japan.

Is Dragon Ball on Netflix?

Partly. Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, a remake of the first Dragon Ball Super arc, has streamed weekly on Netflix since October 17, 2026. The original Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z are not on Netflix in the US. They stream on Crunchyroll. We rate the whole franchise 10+.

How do I keep mature anime off my kid’s Netflix profile?

Use two settings on the kid’s profile: a maturity rating, and title restrictions for specific shows. The maturity rating alone is not enough for anime, because the badges are inconsistent. Komi Can’t Communicate is TV-PG but has suggestive jokes, and we rate it 12+. Saiki K. is TV-14 for not much more than some language. Block the specific shows you do not want, like Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
